At some point a long, long time ago our species made a choice. We gave up the certainty of instinct, and in it's place we took the uncertainty of intellect. On the whole, this wasn't such a bad choice, as it has allowed for numerous innovations that have propelled our species to wherever the fuck we are today.

I bring this up not because I wish we had remained blissfully unaware of ourselves, but rather I need some sort of frame of reference for the choice(s) I now find myself facing. Forgive me for this, but I'm going to be intentionally vague about the specifics here.

I have bad habit of viewing the world (and everyone in it) as a puzzle, and it's my duty to solve it. This prevents me from ever just letting things "be", and it prevents me from accepting conclusions that I haven't reached on my own.

For the past two days I've spent an inordinate amount of time studying the most insignificant of things (birds outside, stupid infomercials, lint in my pockets) all in hopes that some kind of outside force will trigger in me an epiphany, so I won't have to make the choice myself.

So maybe I do kind of wish we had stayed faithful to instinct. At least then I would be certain was acting in the right (though I guess i'd be so certain, the certainty of it wouldn't even occur to me).

I know the choice that would cause the three people involved the least amount of stress.
I know the choice that would make me stop writing stupid entries like this.

What I don't know is how I can make these choices on an intellectual level, when every instinct I have is telling me to do the exact oppisite.

tmnt rant

oh such sad misconceptions people have! YOU don't know the teenage mutant ninja turtles...

from issue 26 of the original comic series:

The Old Man has appeared on the Wisdom Stone, and he explains that he has lived so long that he is now the river, and it is he. He tells the tale of an ancient, technologically advanced civilization that thrived but destroyed itself during the age of dinosaurs, and how the few that survived swore off technology and embraced the Earth, soon unlocking her deepest secrets. They learned that the rivers were conduits of planetary energy, powerlines that helped them gain all knowledge of the physical world. Eventually, the survivors transcended flesh and merged with the rivers, so that there is one for each of the world's waterways... and they're still searching for knowledge, still hungry to learn all that is new.

this was from a 3 issue run done by writer Rick Veitch called "The River". it was a mystical journey of randomness that led me to the discovery of this jewel, and i thank you all.

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/mirage/volume01/26/26.htm

edit: for citation
